BASE jumping and hang gliding don’t mix. Or do they? French hang glider and BASE jumper Denis Verchere begs to differ. Climbing out the back of a tandem hang glider Denis first surfs the leading edge then BASE jumps headfirst off it, or at least that’s the plan. However, a plan such as this clearly has its highs and lows.

Evasion follows Denis and friends as they work out the complexities of wing walking a hang glider. The path to success sees gliders broken and reserve parachutes chucked before success is met.

The flying sequences in Evasion are breath taking. The failed attempts to get the stunt right even more so. Mixed in with fantastic wingsuit jumps and candid interviews with Denis and friends, Evasion is deserving of the accolade it won in the Coupe Icare film festival.

Evasion is backed up with four bonus sections that include the Swoop mini wing, HG acro and Denis’ first attempt to jump off a hang glider.

Evasion is in French with English subtitles, but to be fair, leaping off the top of a hang glider needs very few words.

NB: If you have problems with the subtitles on this film on a computer, watch it on a DVD player and TV. That normally resolves it.
